Winterville, NC – Jamie J. Cooper, a seasoned Boys & Girls Clubs professional, has been named President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain (BGCCP), effective November 16, 2015. The announcement was made by BGCCP Board Chair D. Jordan Whichard lll, and concludes a national search process that began in June.
“The Board’s Search Committee feels strongly that Jamie Cooper possesses the experience, skills, and temperament to translate our Board’s vision into strategies and actionable objectives across all segments of the organization, ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain”, Whichard said. “Importantly, we think Jamie’s management skillset provides a unique complement to the talents of our fabulous existing professional team, allowing them to continue to drive our day-to-day work in activities that positively impact the lives of our kids.”
Cooper has been Executive Director of The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greensboro, NC since October, 2011. During his tenure, Cooper led that organization through a period of intentional cultural change, focusing on staff professional development, programming excellence, and financial growth and stability. He provided leadership as a member of the Capital Campaign Team to raise $7.6 Million of funding for new construction, existing building renovations, and property acquisition benefiting the Greensboro Salvation Army and its Boys & Girls Clubs. Most recently, Cooper led his organization’s efforts to secure $1.2 Million from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and the Kevin Harvick Foundation to fund a Boys & Girls Clubs Youth Development Park. The park, to be opened next year on the same property as the new Boys & Girls Club facility, features a state-of-the art outdoor synthetic surface, including a full soccer and baseball field.
Prior to becoming a Boys & Girls Clubs professional, Cooper served as an associate pastor with several Southern Baptist Convention churches in the Fayetteville and Wilmington, NC areas. There he provided oversight, strategic planning, and vision for programs specific to youth, children, and education. Previously, Cooper worked as a Supervisor in the Greensboro United Parcel Service hub while completing his bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, which followed his service in the US Armed Forces.
