CURRENT EVENT:

Back to School – Week Two, but not yet back to normal! If that even exists anymore … we can cover that in a Current Event discussion a few months from now! This week Ms. Anastasia wants to hear all about your first week! Are you comfortable with your new schedule? How about the hybrid instructional model? Most importantly, are you wearing your mask?

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

On August 25, 1862, U.S. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton officially authorizes the use of black soldiers. The first unit was the 1st South Carolina Volunteers, composed of escaped slaves from South Carolina and Florida. Harriet Tubman  served as a cook, nurse, spy, and scout for this unit.

IT'S A CELEBRATION:

Go Bananas! Today is National Banana Split Day! Did you know the banana split was not first created in an ice cream parlor but a pharmacy in 1904? David Evans Strickler, a pharmacist’s apprentice who loved experimenting with the new soda fountain sundaes in his free time invented this delicious and healthy (because bananas=fruit=healthy, duh!) treat!
