Shonda Morris serves at the Regional Vice President of Region 1 (serving Pitt Counties) at BGCCP. Shonda has been a Boys & Girls Club professional for 19 years. She is a proud product of the Weeks Armstrong Housing Projects in Rocky Mount, NC. This is where she developed a love to serve others, through her participation in community based programs. She gives great credit to the lessons she learned as a servant leader from her mother and grandmother. “My mom and grandmother were known in our community for taking care of everyone’s children. I watched them provide food, clothing, and sometimes shelter to so many others. They gave of their time and resources effortlessly.”
Academic Excellence was also encouraged in her home, as she would graduate with Honors from Rocky Mount Senior High. She went on to attend East Carolina University and later transferred to North Carolina Wesleyan College, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Sociology. Shortly after graduation, Shonda started in the movement, with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Nash/Edgecombe Counties, as a part-time Program Assistant (Youth Development Professional). She moved up through the ranks swiftly earning full-time status. Shonda has served in several capacities focusing on program management, grant writing, grant management, marketing, training and leadership development.
The things Shonda loves the most about Boys & Girls Club, is every day is different and a great day for a fresh start! “I am strengthen and encouraged as I see the longitudinal reach of how the Boys & Girls Club positively impact the lives of the youth I have the privilege to serve.”
Shonda enjoys reading, photography, listening to music, communicating with family and friends. She is the proud mother of Ja’Quez, Jataevious, Jamari, Charisse, and grandmother to Bailey. She cherishes the times she is with her family.
